Parallel Mind, The Art of Creativity is not about how to draw or paint, but how to think like an artist. Aliyah Marr draws from her experience as a teacher, visual artist, poet, graphic designer, and art director to demonstrate how you can change your body, your profession, your relationship, and your life just by changing your thoughts. A powerful reference guide for artists, educators, psychologists, entrepreneurs, scientists, and for those who have an interest in a practical form of self-development. “Thinking Upside-Down” Creativity Lecture Series: Speaker Proposal

•October 16, 2008 • 2 Comments

COVER LETTER

It is my dream and life mission to help everyone to become more creative in their lives. Art has given me incredible resources that I can share with others.

I am the author of a new book on creativity called “Parallel Mind, The Art of Creativity.” It is about how to change your life through the application of creativity in the artistic process. The book is due to be published in print soon. There is a great deal of interest in this book already from several areas: art, education, personal development, and corporate training.

I would like to give a talk introducing the concepts in this book. Top corporations and leading edge design schools are interested in my speaker series on the subject of creativity. While companies and schools like these have no dearth of creative minds, my experience has shown me that the creative batteries of professionals get drained and need recharging from time to time.

As a teacher, I saw that the student’s creative development was being neglected in favor of their technical training. I saw it as my job to open the minds of the students, not train them for a niche that will change in a year. With all the pressure from the students and within the design industry it is increasingly difficult to offer broader training. That’s where I come in.

I see myself as an inspirational speaker, teacher, and creative coach. I have a hard time defining myself, but mainly I am an “ideas” person: my business card coins the phrase “imaginator.” I have a great deal of experience in fine art, multimedia, graphic design, marketing, teaching, and in, of course, creativity. I have taught at Parsons, Pratt, and SVA, given seminars on multimedia, and exhibited my interactive art internationally.

Workshop Proposal

1-2 Hour Talk:
Title: Parallel Mind, The Art of Creativity
Question and Answer period
Book signing

2-7 Day Workshop:
Title: Think Upside Down
Content:
Part One, Creativity, defines and outlines creativity: what is it, how can we use it,
where does it reside?

Part Two, Double Vision, is about the source of creativity — our inner child — and
how we, as adults, encase this pure self in a cage of fear and limitation.

Part Three, Body & Soul discusses the relationship of the body to the mind; how to
use your mind creatively to create the body you want.

Part Four, Shaking the Tree explores more deeply into the mind, how to change limiting beliefs, how to overcome fear, and encourage original thought.

Part Five, Navigating a Sea of Emotions is about emotions: why do we have them,
how to choose your emotions, and how to use them effectively.

Part Six, The Secret of Sex reveals how to marshal the twin forces of passion and
desire to supercharge and sustain your creative vision.

Part Seven, The Conscious Creative shows how the practice of art brings the artist
increased awareness and personal power.

Part Eight, The Infinite Self brings together the concepts introduced in the former
chapters, and shows how they can lead the artist to creative freedom.

Innovative, playful exercises are interspersed throughout the workshop, spontaneously
engaging the participants in all forms of art from conceptual art to nonsense poetry.
